Beginning October 1st at 6:30 p.m., we will begin a six-week study in the book, If You Want to Walk on Water, You've Got to Get Out of The Boat. It’s time we get out of our comfort zone and take the steps needed for the purpose God has for us. Books are available on Amazon. You will need both, the book and the participant guide; or let Rocky know to order you the bundle for $20. For more details contact Rocky at rocky@millwoodpc.org.
Navigators Gathering – October 17
Join us at noon for a potluck lunch and fellowship as Don Belfils shares about Mission Aviation Training Academy’s work training missionary pilots. Please bring a dish to share and arrive a little early so we can begin on time. All retirees and those nearing retirement are welcome!
We invite anyone who would like to join us for a time of learning and singing new songs. Over the past few months, we’ve introduced several new pieces, and this is a chance to become more familiar with them. We’ll gather in the front row of the Sanctuary at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays and spend about 20 minutes together. All are welcome—come as you are!
At Millwood, we have a blended worship style. The music portion includes piano, organ, guitars and drums, featuring modern worship songs as well as traditional hymns. In this manner, we honor the great hymns of the past as well as look to our future.
Kids up through grade four are encouraged to participate during the first part of the service and then they are dismissed for an age-appropriate lesson. Kids are also welcome to stay in worship.
Hope you can make it, we’ve saved you a seat!
High Schoolers, come join us for YG! We meet Monday nights at 7:00 p.m., in The Barn. Come relax, have some fun, and build relationships with other students and with God. Hope to see you there!

In early Christian tradition, All Saints’ days began as a way to mark the anniversary of a martyr’s death — his or her “birthday” as a saint. By the middle of the church’s first millennium, there were so many martyrs (particularly due to the persecution of Diocletian) that it was hard to give them all their due. All Saints’ Day was established on the first day of November as an opportunity to honor all the saints. All Saints’ Day has a rather different focus in the Reformed tradition. While we may give thanks for the lives of particular luminaries of ages past, the emphasis is on the ongoing sanctification of the whole people of God. Rather than putting saints on pedestals as holy people set apart in glory, we give glory to God for the ordinary, holy lives of the believers in this and every age. This is an appropriate time to give thanks to members of the community of faith who have died in the past year. We also pray that we may be counted among the company of the faithful in God’s eternal realm. All Saints’ Day. Presbyterian Mission Agency. (2020, September 11).https://www.presbyterianmission.org/ministries/worship/christianyear/all-saints-day/
Daylight Saving Time concludes at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 2. Please remember to set your clocks back one hour before going to bed on Saturday night, November 1. We look forward to seeing you at church—right on time!

What Is Advent Anyway? Do you ever wonder what the wreaths, calendars, candles, and those weird waxy chocolate Santas, sheep, and wiseman are all about? Why do we decorate the Sanctuary and stage an Advent wreath every year? Why do we have a party? Why do we light a candle and share a special devotion for four Sundays in a row until we get to Christmas Eve? Yes, if you were thinking it’s about Jesus, you are correct! Fairly simply, Advent means coming. Advent is about the birth of Jesus; His coming. But there is a deeper meaning to Advent in that there are several “comings” knit within. His first coming was only the beginning!
Jesus Has Come: Most people know the basics of Jesus first coming as a baby. Everyone has a birthday. We aren’t merely having a birthday party for baby Jesus. Yes, that is part of it, but we are also remembering His ministry; coming upon the earth as a man to live, teach, and walk among us for 33 years; and most importantly to die for the sin that keeps us separated from God.
Jesus Comes To Us In Our Lives Now: Jesus next “coming” is in receiving the free gift of salvation He offers us by grace through faith. When you do that, His Holy Spirit lives in you and is with you. When we make our hearts Jesus’ home, He is with us all the time; especially when we are being about our Redeemers’ business. You can speak to Him whenever you want. He came for an ongoing, active relationship with you that you can have now.
Jesus Will Come: Jesus’ final “coming” to us will be as King, not as an infant. He is coming back for us in our future. While we wait expectantly for Him, we watch, fast, and pray.
Come Lord Jesus!
“The Advent season is that time when we seek to, in a manner of speaking, mute our memory of what has already happened, that we might brighten our joy that it happened. We leave the already of His advent to taste the bitter of the not yet. We, in short, go back, that we might look forward to His coming.”

Join us in the Sanctuary on Wednesday, February 18th, at 7:00 p.m. as we mark the beginning of Lent with the imposition of ashes. We hope you can be a part of this meaningful worship service.
A Little About Lent:
At one time Lent was primarily viewed as a period during which converts prepared for baptism on Easter Sunday, but later the season became a general time of penitence and renewal for all Christians. Thus Ash Wednesday became the day that marked the beginning of the Lenten renewal. The aim of Ash Wednesday worship is threefold: to meditate on our mortality, sinfulness, and need of a Savior; to renew our commitment to daily repentance in the Lenten season and in all of life; and to remember with confidence and gratitude that Christ has conquered death and sin. —Worship Sourcebook

For centuries, the Roman Catholic Church held unquestioned authority across Western Europe. That began to shift during the Renaissance in the 1400s, when new ideas and technologies sparked widespread change. One of the most transformative inventions was the printing press, developed around 1450. Suddenly, ordinary people could access printed materials—including the Bible—and explore the writings of reformers who challenged church practices.
The term Reformation refers to a broad movement of religious change, most notably during the 1500s. Though Martin Luther wasn’t the first to raise concerns, his actions became a turning point. A German priest and professor, Luther publicly opposed the sale of indulgences—a practice he saw as deeply corrupt. In 1517, he posted his famous Ninety-Five Theses on the church door in Wittenberg, Germany, sparking what we now call the Protestant Reformation.
This movement reshaped Christianity, empowered individual faith, and forever changed the course of history.
